The week before last, the children in Class 7, as well as Miss Connor's Y5 pupils, took part in a criminal investigation! The King's money was stolen and in groups it was their job to investigate who the perpetrator was from a list of 'devious' suspects including Goldilocks, Puss in Boots and the Knave of Hearts! They looked at a range of different evidence: a crime scene, a police database, witness statements and potential suspects' motives.
They had to use higher order reading and thinking skills to deduce and infer which of the subjects was most likely to be guilty and produce a police report to share. The children enjoyed the investigation, working well to survey the different evidence and put a case together!
Some of our Y5 pupils were then lucky enough to attend Ynysowen last week for the follow up activity with the rest of the cluster schools who'd also carried out this 'whodunnit'. They took part in a mock trial using their questioning skills when taking the role of defence and prosecution. They very much enjoyed their taste of court life; who knows, we may see some become lawyers in the future!
A big thanks to Ynysowen for putting together such a fantastic activity!
Here's some photos of our investigators in action:
